In this day and age we have so many different avenue for social networking, most of them are just to keep in contact with friends and share photos or messages. Some of them are very useful however and serve a good purpose. Blogs and Wikis both help people by allowing them to view and share information, but on different scales and scopes. Wikis allow people to share information on topics and give others the ability to contribute or correct information. Its open to the public to view all the topics and search for anything they need, its a collection of a wide variety of information. The problem with Wikis arises from the availability of it to everyone when people can post their contributions which can often be misleading or links which can give other's viruses. The article "Wikipedia Will Limit Changes To Articles on People" talks about this problem and the actions the founder will take to prevent this. Before a thread can be made public it has to be reviewed by an official editor to make sure all the information is accurate.
Blogs on the other hand are more for discussions, you can just write an article on your thoughts on a subject and others can read it post their comments. Nobody can change your post other than you and it gives you the ability to fully express yourself. Blogs can serve as a means of communicating for large companies about policies and directions the mangers want to take the company into. One person can write the starting article and all others can comment and give their input. Blogs can help communities come together and put a stop to crimes in their area, the article "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid" shows how a blog allowed a community to discuss the happenings in their area and observing all the happenings. Everyone came to realize that they weren't alone in concerning about the drugs in the neighborhood and allowed them to gain confidence to take action against it and put an end to it.
A new use for Wikis can be to post public records with official information from City Halls and it would allow people to contribute their knowledge of events or areas, thus expanding the amount information available to the public instead of just the available newspaper articles and what City Hall would release.
